Week 13 – The Tomato

I can’t believe how fast time has gone by, I seem to remember that the first couple of weeks dragged endlessly during Round 1. Can’t say I’m upset about that though, we look forward to telling everyone about our surprise baby! 😀

This week, we found an awesome fruit-n-veggie-basketish array of foods that perfectly matched baby’s size, maybe to make up for our Week 11 overlook. 😉 Passionfruit, kiwi, tomato, and a lime or two thrown in for the nice coloring. I was picturing a shot with the passion fruit cut open so you could see the passionfruity-yellowish inside, because from the outside it doesn’t look too exciting. We also baked chocolate chip cookies this week, and one by chance turned out  exactly 7.2 cm in diameter! Well-equipped, we took the yummsies up to the mountains, thinking to use the snow as a picturesque setting for several shots.

However, after snowshoeing for a couple of miles (why is it that now when I’m pregnant we’re doing all this sportsy stuff all of a sudden?! Normally, we’re lazy bums who may cycle 2 km if and only if there is an ice cream parlor waiting at the destination 😀 ), a) the sun was going down, b) we were tired, and c), lying down in cold snow is, well, a cold affair. So, we picked one shot. Sadly, the passionfruit didn’t get chosen, and the chocolate chip cookies were gone as they were used to coax DD along (think: donkey+carrot on stick) but tomatos are yummy too! 😉

By the way, the cookies we baked were after a recipe from Alice Currah at savorysweetlife.com  and hands down, they have got to be the most awesome chocolate chip cookies EVER. I experimented a bit, and when we left some dough in the fridge for a while, those cookies somehow turned extra-chewy-on-the-inside but crispy-on-the edges. LOVE them!

Speaking of cookies, I don’t really have cravings per se (except for sushi, of course 😉 ), but the other day I read a book and came across the words “carrot-colored hair”. Had. To. Have. Carrot. Cake. As in, immediately. Now. Pronto subito. Luckily, our cafeteria does cakes, and there was a piece of carrot cake with my name on it. 😉 Same thing has happened with watching a movie, guy brings pepperoni pizza over. Must. Have. Pepperoni. Pizza. As in now. As in, I don’t care if I’m not really hungry and its already midnight. So far, my husband has been spared the late-night grocery trips because the next scene was the pizza looking all moldy. 😉 Worked well enough!

Please ignore any wool-silk longjohns you may see peeking out. At least they were color-coordinated with the tomato, right? 😉

Week 12 – The Lady Apple

I don’t know why they’re called lady apples, but oh well. They look cute, and they are the perfect size for baby in week 12. I bought a couple the week before, thinking we may do a shoot earlier in the week. But by the time we got ready to think of where to do the pics, we noticed that all little lady apples had been nibbled at. Mice? Could be. Unlikely. DD? She admitted it straight-away without even batting an eyelash. But who can get mad at her for wanting to eat apples, right? 😀

We went hiking this weekend and lugged us all up to the top of a pretty high hill (in my humble pregnant opinion), and seeing as how I was already carrying all 26.5 lbs of DD on my back, I was glad that we are only at week 11. Imagine having to lug a water melon with you while hiking! Will need to find less remote spots for the later weeks. Then again, remote is good, so noone can see me making a fool of myself trying to balance as straight as possible on a rock, an apple on my belly, and DD on the side so she wouldn’t fall off the ledge. It didn’t help when my husband kindly requested that I please stop breathing so he could focus. I’m actually not sure if I was exhaling-because-cracking-up or if my belly really has grown that much. It sure feels like it, and I’ve started to rubberband my  tight pants instead of buttoning them.

Week 11 – The Mushroom

So, this is a tad bit embarrassing, but for some reason I thought that we actually did a week 11 photo. Well, turns out when I started posting, I realized that the math didn’t work out. Oops. This is because we don’t have a certain day of the week to do these photos at, otherwise I’m sure we would’ve noticed earlier. So, this is actually a pic from a couple of days after lady apple, but oh well. 😉

DD was sleeping, so she couldn’t do the honors, which is a good thing – she loves, loves, LOVES mushrooms in all stages, and will eat them raw and unwashed. Eek. Oh, we chose the mushroom cause babies are springing up like crazy! So many people that we know are pregnant, either with Nr 1, 2, 3 or even 4, so its promising to be an exciting next couple of months!
Pregnancy-wise, everything is going fine, the belly seems to be growing much faster than last time around, but I guess that is to be expected. 🙂

Week 10 – The Sushi

I’m on a roll here (ooh, proof-reading makes me notice the totally unintended but intentionally left-in cheesy pun there 😀), there’s been a bit of a backlog as I’m actually at 12+0 while writing this just now. 😉

The Sushi. I’m not so sure I’ll be able to crave something more than this. Thankfully, we are in the land of relatively cheap but yummy Whole Foods Sushi, so it’s all good. Oh, and so you don’t get all judgemental on me here, it’s of course sushi with avocado, cucumbers and cooked shrimp. Baby is only maki-sized yet, but my husband eats all the nigiri in less than a minute anyway, so we’ll look for a different food then. 🙂

Pregnancy-wise, the nausea has subsided even more, and standing up I think I can start noticing a little teensy-weensy bump. Disappears when lying down though, especially when all honest attempts at trying to not tuck in my tummy during bikini-belly-pics fail.

Aside from me being quite self-conscious (why show your bikini-nonbaby-belly online, crazy pregnant lady??) it was again quite difficult to keep the darn roll whole while taking pictures. We thought we’d be safe as DD has so far steered far away from anything wrapped in algae, but no. The second picture clearly shows the damage, and after we finished she stuffed the whole thing in her mouth and happily chewed away. I guess life will only get more expensive from now on. 😀

Week 9 – The Olive

Mmmmmmh, make that garlicky olive. Yummyummyummy, we could all live off of these, so there was no doubt when having to choose between the suggested grape or olive. For the record and in case you want to join in on the fun, I use the sizing charts from either Babycenter or The Bump.

Week 9 has seen a slight subsiding of the nausea, so I get to enjoy more olives and less ketchupy pasta. Otherwise, no real signs, and we couldn’t really tell if there was some yummy.baby.belly-growing going on or not. Probably not. Probably just olives.

Week 8 – The Boysenberry

Week 8 is here, this is where a mild case of spotting sent me to experience the joys of the US ER facilities. Seems that doctors and urgent care facilities don’t like self-paying visitors from other countries. The spotting was really mild, and I had it often throughout Round 1. Then again, needed Rhogum, so off I went. I did get to see a boysenberry-sized heart beat, so that was awesome! 🙂

The nausea is still there (duh). And man, I am tired. But aside from a lack of growth in my upper body, this is exactly how it went last time.

Still no (baby) belly, and we hadn’t really decided on an angle/a perspective yet. But hey, we’ve got some 32 weeks (plus or minus 3) to figure it out, so we’ll be fine! 😀

Oh, and are those boysenberries? Or blackberries? I can never tell the difference. They taste yummy, which is why DD ate it halfway through the shoot. Oops. She remembers that when we show her the pics. 😀

Week 7 – The Blueberry

Oh my, the nausea! Wow, I had forgotten from Round 1 how rough those days where…luckily, I don’t REALLY get sick, I just feel really really awful day in and day out (notice my refusal to call this morning sickness 😉 ). Pasta with ketchup it is, worked well first time around.

Can’t see much of a belly yet. Baby belly, that is.

The idea

When I found out we were unexpectedly expecting our second child, a million thoughts immediately rushed in. Aside from the usual “oh my, there’s a second line!”-thoughts, I already felt bad that this pregnancy was most definitely not going to be as regally cherished as the first. This was something I’d already been dreading during the first pregnancy (talk about overthinking stuff! 😉 ) .To put my mind at ease while carrying Nr 1, I’d decided to have one special project for each child (hubby wants six of those, so gotta be creative 😉 ). We didn’t do any fancy artwork, no belly painting, no consistent belly pics, no time lapse videos (no idea how to put those together anyway), no belly casts. But I did have some belly pictures taken by an awesome photographer, and each Sunday as I would move forward to a new pregnancy week we read the appropriate place in our pregnancy book. Plus, there was nightly song-singing to the belly in the hopes that this would later turn out to be the all-comforting lullaby (didn’t work 😉 ), and we just spent LOTS of time thinking and talking about what and who was growing inside me.
Needless to say, when you have  a toddler prancing around the house, that doesn’t work anymore. Plus, this time around my pregnancy weeks move up on Tuesdays, which is just a weird day for us as we’re so  busy during the week with work and all. So, no book reading this time around, no song singing before bed time, and definitely way less talking and thinking about baby Nr. 2. Then again, that also means less worrying and less googling, so that can only be good! 🙂

Back to special pregnancy project. When I was putting together a ticker I couldn’t decide between these two:

And I guess you get where the idea for taking a picture with baby-sized food on my growing belly came from. 😉 So far, this has been lots of fun with trying to find the right-sized foods, although I do have to say we don’t stick to what the ticker suggests all the time. I just don’t like prunes, for example, so we did sushi that week, which I am craving tremendously during Round Nr 2. Coming to think of it, we only did the ticker-suggested fruit during the first week, but oh well! 😀

By the way, when I set up this blog, I googled to see if anyone had done something similar (and of course, in the wide world of the web, several people have 😉 ). So, if you like seeing fruit-n-veggies-the-size-of-a-baby, check out the awesome series done by the fabulous Carolee Beckham.

I LOVE her dresses and her picture-style! Heads-up though, do not expect anything similar on this blog, as I am neither a professional photographer nor do I have an incredible wardrobe like that. Also, I found some pics here done by Bryan of his wife, and here by Megan. Megan even put up yummy recipes to go with the produce that she used to compare with baby. I think that’s great, what ARE you going to do once the baby starts becoming the size of a different squash variety every week? *lol*
If you know of any other fun belly pic series, let me know in the comment box and I’ll make sure to link them as well! 🙂
